JEDDAH — A key minister in the United Arab Emirates government strongly condemned a Turkish drone attack inside Iraq on Tuesday.
Anwar Gargash, the UAE's minister of state for foreign affairs, called the Turkish strike that killed two high-ranking Iraqi officers a violation of Iraq’s sovereignty.
“We stand with brotherly Iraq in the face of the ongoing Turkish violations of its sovereignty,” Gargash said in a tweet on Wednesday.
“Our position is consistent in rejecting regional interference in Arab affairs. Relations among states must be based on full respect for sovereignty and non-interference in their internal affairs,” the UAE minister added.
On Tuesday, Iraq’s foreign ministry termed the strike as a blatant Turkish drone attack in the autonomous Kurdish region as it canceled a scheduled visit of the Turkish defense minister to the country.
Iraqi ministry also summoned the Turkish ambassador to hand him a strong protest note and inform him of Iraq’s confirmed rejection of his country's attacks and violations”.
