'Salam' hosts Saudi doctors’ webinar to disseminate Kingdom’s positive image

Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — Salam for Cultural Communication recently hosted a virtual webinar of a group of Saudi doctors working in a number of countries under the Kingdom’s Foreign Scholarship Program. The seminar titled “Saudi doctors abroad and promoting positive image of Saudi Arabia” dealt with the doctors’ personal stories and experiences with patients in several countries. There are more than 6,000 Saudi doctors who are engaged in combating coronavirus pandemic in 41 countries around the world. Those who participated in the webinar included Dr. Hussain Al-Hamal of Medical Park Hospital in Germany; Dr. Hani Al-Johani of Colmar Hospital in France, Dr. Mauda Al-Khalidi of Case Western Reserve University Hospital in the United States, and Muhammad Al-Nafeesi, a medical student in Jordan. Their speeches focused on the positive impressions that they continue receiving from the host communities about their choice to stay on to work with their fellow doctors to confront the pandemic, even though they had the option to return to their homeland. The doctors also talked about the attitude of people of the host countries and their observations about their field of work as well as their role in disseminating positive image of Saudi Arabia. The Saudi doctors, who were sent under the Foreign Scholarship Program to study medicine or specialize in various medical fields around the world, showed a remarkable presence on the humanitarian level, during their participation with doctors from a number of host countries in the treatment of people infected with coronavirus. They have proved that they are an embodiment of humanitarianism, represented by their country and leadership in extending help and assistance to those in need around the world. A large number of these doctors decided to stay on in their respective countries where they study and contribute along with doctors of those countries and work in hospitals despite the risks posed by the corona pandemic. The scholarship doctors are serving as true ambassadors of the country in promoting its humanitarian image and its mission of fostering peace, coexistence and humanity with peoples after embodying the concept of common global citizenship. Salam for Cultural Communication aims to present the real image of the Kingdom as a humanitarian nation and break down cultural stereotypes that can lead to bias. The project organizes several programs highlighting the importance of peaceful coexistence and communication among people of all nations and faiths.
