Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — A painting hanging on the wall of the office of Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman became an instant hit as it drew the attention of many people who watched the virtual meeting of the Council of Ministers on Tuesday night. It was also an astonishing and unbelievable moment for Zaman Jasim, the talented Saudi plastic artist, to see his painting in the Crown Prince’s office. Minister of Culture Prince Badr Bin Farhan recalled that Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman had directed in 2013 that all paintings in his offices should be the creative works from Saudi artists. Speaking to Al-Arabiya.net, Zaman said: “This painting, which I drew in 2017, brought me much popularity for the variety of ideas that I applied in it but I never expected it would reach the Crown Prince’s office. I was immensely proud after seeing it there with messages of congratulations flooding my social media accounts,” he said. “This work consists of a set of experiments on blank space on which I have been working on for a while drawing inspiration from the local environment and heritage in an indirect way. For me, the painting is a shortcut of what I see in reality and hence everything that passes around me is referred to as the inner essence of the work.” According to Zaman, “the Arabic letter inside the painting also imbibes a musical feeling and I wrote the word Salam (peace) inside this painting as well as in most of my other works.” Zaman said he is trying to use different materials. He is not satisfied with using only the color but rather he is trying to use completely different materials such as fiberglass, minerals and clay. Zaman was born in Al-Khobar governorate in 1971and now works in Qatif city. After obtaining a diploma from the Institute of Art Education in Riyadh in 1989, he devoted himself to art and participated in many events within the Kingdom and abroad. He also organized several art shows, the most important of which were the two individual art galleries held in Paris during the year 2004 and 2007 in addition to exhibitions held in the Gulf states.
