RIYADH — Iraqi authorities have postponed the execution of Saudi prisoner Abdullah Al-Qahtani, according to his lawyer Abdulrahman Al-Jurais.
Al-Jurais said he received notification from credible sources to have the execution of the Saudi prisoner temporarily stopped.
The lawyer said that they would continue efforts to defend Saudi prisoners in Iraq until they are freed and sent back home.
He added that they received positive indications from the Iraqi side, especially now that the language has changed. Al-Qahtani is now referred to as a detainee or prisoner whereas he was regarded a terrorist before.
While Al-Jurais said the prisoners are subjected to ill treatment and unfair trial, he also said what is important is that Saudi prisoners return home.
He thanked the Saudi Ministry of Interior and the Iraqi ambassador in Saudi for dealing with all the difficulties in this case.
