Moroccan king launches jail project

Casablanca — King Mohammed VI’s solicitude for inmates was mirrored anew through a project launched Friday by the sovereign at the Oukacha prison in Casablanca, reported Maghreb Arabe Presse Saturday.

The King laid the foundation stone of a pavilion for female inmates with children, which will be carried out for 5 million dirhams and benefit from the social support by the Mohammed VI Foundation for inmates’ reintegration.

The project, meant to protect kids accompanying their mothers in prisons, reflects the special interest the king takes in this segment of society as shows the royal speech dated January 29, 2003, in which the monarch said “the special care we devote to the social dimension in the field of justice is incomplete without the dignity we guarantee to the imprisoned citizens, which they are not denied following the court orders involving deprivation of liberty.”

On this occasion, the king visited the women’s pavilion at the Oukacha prison, as well as the day care for the female inmates’ kids. The sovereign was given details on the conditions of female inmates’ imprisonment, and on the different actions undertaken by the Mohammed VI Foundation for inmates’ reintegration. — SG
