RIYADH – Saudi Telecom Company (STC) has recently organized a three-day regular international conference for the submarine project (IMEWE). Senior executives and representatives of corporate partners in the project attended the meeting. The massive international project foresees one of the latest submarine cable technologies connecting East to West, extending from India to Europe, and passing through the Arabian Gulf region, with the city of Jeddah being one of the main stations in the project.

Dr. Homoud Mohammed Al Kusayer, Vice President of Wholesale at STC, welcomed the guests and participants in the conference, and stressed that these meetings contribute to developing the project in aspects pertaining to its capacity and performance to the highest global standards. He reiterated that these factors are key to sustaining the best interests of partners and investors in the project and to satisfying the clients.

The project, which was launched in Saudi Arabia last year, connects France with Italy, passing through Egypt and Lebanon from the west and India and Pakistan from the east, and passing through the United Arab Emirates.

The project employs the best and latest optical fiber technologies for submarine connections, and offers a platform for international telecommunication companies between the Middle East, Europe, and Southeast Asia.

The project has great capacity and potential for future improvements that could foresee submarine cables connecting North America and East Asia to the Middle East, which gives STC the opportunity of fulfilling its long-term goals through providing the suitable infrastructure and preparing it for future client demands.

STC continues to consolidate its leadership in submarine cable projects in the Middle East due to its importance to the company in particular and to the Kingdom in general. This comes in correlation with the rapid growth in the telecommunication services sector in the Kingdom, in particular Internet and cable services.

STC is considered a premier service provider for taking the lead in introducing new services to the Kingdom such as "Verve" fiber optic service and 4G network coverage. – SG
