Kenya kidnap victims ‘in good health’

Last updated: Monday, July 02, 2012 1:11 AM

JEDDAH – Three Saudi tourists who were wounded during their escape from kidnappers in Nairobi arrived at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah Saturday night and were immediately transferred to King Fahd Hospital in the city, according to Dr. Sami Badawood, director of Health Affairs in Jeddah.

The trio were returning to their hotel after a sight-seeing trip past midnight when masked gunmen followed them and forced them into a deserted area on the outskirts of the Kenyan capital. The Saudis sustained bullet wounds when the gunmen fired upon them as they escaped.

Preliminary medical examinations carried out at the airport showed the Saudis were in good health. “After being examined by the medical team of the emergency and crisis unit, the three wounded travelers were taken by separate ambulances to King Fahd Hospital,” said Badawood.

A medical team at the hospital has been assigned to check on their health and ensure their wellbeing, he added. — SG
