Gun battles leave 17 dead in Nigeria

Kano, Nigeria — Gun battles after suspected militants attacked police posts and a prison in northern Nigeria’s Kano city left 17 “extremists” and one police officer dead, police said Wednesday. “A total of 17 extremists were killed by our men. We lost a police corporal,” said Kano State Police Commissioner Ibrahim Idris regarding the clashes that began late Tuesday. — AFP
