KSA, UN rights body sign accord

GENEVA — Saudi Arabia and the High Commissioner for Human Rights have signed a memorandum of understanding in the field of technical cooperation.

The MoU was signed by Dr. Bandar Al-Aiban, President of the Human Rights Commission (HRC), and Navanethem Pillay, High Commissioner for Human Rights, here Wednesday.

The MoU, Dr. Al-Aiban said, came within the framework of efforts of King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, in the field of enhancing and protecting human rights.

The HRC, as per the MoU, will implement programs and activities in collaboration with the UN body in order to enhance national capabilities and spread a culture of human rights in the Kingdom. The HRC would organize training courses for employees in the relevant sectors and prepare guidebooks for the purpose in the light of Islamic Shariah. — SG/SPA
