New regulations soon for laborers during summer

RIYADH – The Labor Ministry is soon expected to announce new regulations concerning the work of laborers during summer.
The regulations will be applied from the beginning of June to the end of August when temperatures soar above 40 degrees Centigrade. Those who work under the scorching sun develop several health complications. As per law, laborers should not work from 12 noon to 3 P.M.
Violating establishments will be fined between SR3,000 and SR10,000 for the first offense. If a firm repeats the violation, it will be closed for 30 days.
If it violates the rules for a third time, it will be sealed off permanently.
Meanwhile, Adel Fakieh, Minister of Labor, said he is considering a plan to make the fields of telecommunication and information technology exclusive to Saudi jobseekers. — SG
