LIBREVILLE, Gabon — Senior officials at the 9th Islamic Conference of Information Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) discussed Tuesday the need to establish an Islamic satellite channel and an OIC Muslim journalists’ union to thwart the negative campaign by some vested interests in the Western world.
The conference is being held at Libreville, Gabon and the ministers’ meeting is scheduled for Thursday.
The meeting would discuss the role of the OIC in supporting the causes of Al-Quds Al-Shareef and the Al Aqsa Mosque, developing an integrated information plan to communicate with non-OIC member states.
Items on the agenda also include preparing special information program on Africa to project and promote its place and role in the Muslim world, and the progress report on the establishment of the OIC Broadcasting Regulatory Authorities Union.
Isam Salim Shanti, Director of Information Department, OIC, said that it is necessary for the media in the Muslim world to reveal Israel’s aggressions against Al-Quds Al-Shareef, particularly Al-Aqsa Mosque, and human rights violations against Gazans. — SG
