16 doctors protest unfair termination

By Ali Hawash
Saudi Gazette
MAKKAH – Over 16 medical consultants protested Saturday against the Bakhsh Private Hospital in Makkah for what-they-say was an unfair termination from work without any prior notice.
They have called upon the Labor Office to interfere and protect their rights, as they have children and families to take care of. Besides, they say, the decision to fire them has coincided with the time of their childrens’ final examinations.
Dr. Salah Fuad, a consultant, said he was shocked when he learned that he was among those terminated.
“The hospital was sold a few days ago and the new owner met with the staff and doctors. He reassured them that everything would be fine,” said Fuad. However, he discovered otherwise when he showed up for work Saturday morning. He found that he and 15 other doctors were dismissed.
The doctors were taken by surprise because they were not given a notice period required by the labor law.
Dr. Muhammad Al-Sayed, a consultant, has called upon Makkah Health Affairs and the old owner to step in and negotiate a solution with the new owner who is dealing with the matter in a very “crude way” without any proper justification.
