Kingdom celebrates World Health Day

Last updated: Saturday, April 07, 2012 2:01 AM

RIYADH - The Kingdom is scheduled to observe World Health Day today with the slogan “Good health adds life to old people”.
World Health Day is held on April 7 every year to mark the day the World Health Organization (WHO) was formed in 1948.
World Health Day focuses on ways to ensure older people can live longer and still contribute to society. The world is soon likely to see older people outnumber children.
“The experience of aging in the 21st century will be very different from that of the last century. The WHO invites everyone to think about the sort of society we want to create and consider the policies and actions we need to put in place to anticipate and respond to an aging population,” said the organization.
“Older persons should be encouraged and involved in society and participate actively in the formulation and implementation of policies that directly affect their well-being and share their knowledge and skills with the younger generation.” – SG/SPA
