Whale found dead

JIZAN – A Coast Guard patrol boat found Saturday a dead 12-meter-long whale near Al-Madhaya beach in Jizan. Sources of the Animal Resources Research Center of Jizan said whales migrate from deep water searching for food and during their journey they move into shallow waters and are unable to go back. Exhausted, they die of shortage of oxygen in blood, sources explained. Besides, their bodies get scratched when they hit coral reefs, which contributed to their fast death. “These whales do not live in the Red Sea. They actually come from the Indian Ocean via Bab-el-Mandeb or the Gate of Grief.” – SG
