Makkah resident lives in tent after eviction from house

MAKKAH: Naser Atallah Al-Rashed, a Saudi father of six children, lives with his family in a tent he erected in front of An-Nour Specialist Hospital in Al-Aziziya District, after he was unable to pay rent at the building where he lived.
Okaz/Saudi Gazette visited him and found the tent contained only two sheets, a few appliances and old children’s clothes. “It protects my children from heat and cold,” said Al-Rashed.
Al-Rashed used to be a driver for a government department. He said his debts were SR50,000 while his salary was only SR3,000. “I was frustrated and did not show up at work for 15 days, and as a result I was fired,” he said.
“Shortly after that I was unable to pay the rent and found myself in the street.”
Al-Rashed said he could not even provide his children any items needed for their schooling and has not been able to get help from charities and social insurance.
