JEDDAH – Hani Abu Ras, the Mayor of Jeddah, has said that he does not require a helicopter to check on the extensive construction projects being conducted across the region.
“I know the sites of all the works very well, and I follow their progress closely by going to check up on them after midnight,” Abu Ras said.
The mayor’s statements came in response to advice from the business community and officials that he avail himself of a helicopter to get a better view of the progress, or otherwise, being made in Jeddah’s major works projects, thereby avoiding the traffic congestion on the ground.
Abu Ras, who was appointed mayor following Adel Fakeih’s transfer to the Ministry of Labor in August, described his post as “in the service of my country”.
“I am a son of Jeddah, and I’ll work to turn the ‘Bride of the Red Sea’ into something worthy of its great history,” he said. – Okaz/SG
