JEDDAH – A man of an Arab nationality was arrested Wednesday for impersonating a Saudi national as a legal proxy of a private company for over 18 years.
Using a photocopied identity document (ID) of the Saudi national, the man was granted official authorization for the company owner, that he kept using for almost two decades.
According to sources, the crime was revealed when the man was completing his end of service documents. When the company’s new legal proxy, Khaled Al-Juhani, asked him for the original ID, the man could not present the original.
Al-Juhani had been tipped off by outside sources that the man was using a photocopied ID of an unknown Saudi national. The sources told Al-Juhani that the man just wanted to keep his job when he used the bogus ID.
The case was then reported to the police who arrested the man. Col. Misfer Al-Juaid, spokesman of the Jeddah Police Department, said that the man admitted to the offense of practicing the job illegally for over 18 years.
As investigations continue, it is not clear yet who the original owner of the ID is, or how the man got hold of the photocopied ID. - Okaz/SG
