JIZAN - As Saudi armed forces continue to drive out infiltrators from the southern border regions of the Kingdom, officials have discovered buried arms caches and trenches at abandoned sites believed to have been dug two months ago. The military policy to continue aerial bombardments “until the infiltrators are driven tens of kilometers back beyond the border” also led to the order for a camp for thousands of displaced persons to be set up in Asir as a precautionary measure.
Although official sources say precise numbers are difficult to obtain, “many” infiltrators are said to have been killed in the ongoing operations.
Authorities are also working to distinguish between illegal residents from Yemen who have entered the Kingdom for personal motives such as work or smuggling, and those who have as their goals acts of aggression against the country, as they intensify roundups in Jizan.
The process has been further complicated by the discovery of infiltrators merging into the ranks of those who have been rounded up by police for failing to provide documentation of legal status in Saudi Arabia. – Okaz/SG
