NATION Undercover cops crack down on pickpockets
MINA – Undercover policemen and women have been deployed to crack down on pickpockets at the holy sites, according to Maj. Gen. Khidhir Bin Ayidh Al-Zahrani, Assistant Commander of the Haj Security Forces for Security Affairs.
He said the police are moving around in crowded areas to spot pickpockets and arrest them. Criminal activity is also being monitored using television cameras.
Al-Zahrani said the measures include setting traps by police either dressed in plain clothes or in Ihram at locations including the Jamarat Bridge, sites for the distribution of water, Al-Kheif Mosque, the barber salons neighboring the Jamarat Bridge and the slaughterhouses.
He said police officers are working to educate pilgrims on the methods used by criminals so that they can take the necessary precautions to safeguard their money. – Okaz/SG
