NATION Qur’an forbids chanting of political slogans during Haj, warns Al-Sudais
RIYADH – It is strictly forbidden for Muslims to chant political slogans at the holy sites because this strips Haj of its sanctity and inviolability.
This is the warning from Sheikh Abdul Rahman Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Sudais, Imam and Khateeb of the Holy Haram, who is also a professor of higher Shariah studies at Umm Al-Qura University. He said people involved in such activity sow seeds of discord in Islamic society and commit profanity in the Holy Haram. He quoted from the Qur’an to support this view:
As to those who have rejected
(Allah), and would keep back (men)
From the way of Allah, and
From the Sacred Mosque, which
We have made (open) to (all) men,
Equal is the dweller there
And the visitor from the country –
And whose purpose therein
Is profanity or wrongdoing –
Them will We cause to taste
Of a most grievous penalty.
Surah Al-Haj, Verse 25
He stressed that any politicking during Haj, contravenes its principles, which strictly prohibits any wrangling and wickedness. He pointed out that Haj is one of the five pillars of Islam and one of its greatest rituals. The use of the event for ulterior motives or for personal gain is absolutely forbidden. Such malpractices violate the principles of Islam, he added.
Al-Sudais called on all Muslims, particularly Haj pilgrims to refrain from any chaotic actions or shouting of political slogans which run counter to genuine Islamic teachings and values. – SPA
