SPORTS Al-Hilal’s Aziz likely to get suspension lifted
By Mohammed Al-KinaniSaudi Gazette
JEDDAH – Al-Hilal Club President Prince Abdurrahman Bin Musa’ad Monday promised to lift the administrative suspension on the team’s international midfielder Khaled Aziz, upon a request by Prince Bandar Bin Mohammed, an honorary member.
Prince Bandar requested the president for lifting the suspension during a gathering of former presidents and players of Al-Hilal along with some current players, on the occasion of club’s celebration on the title of “Asia Club of the Century”.
“Upon the prince’s request, I can assure that I will lift the administrative suspension, but can’t make the coach to let him take part. If I insist on his participation, the coach will take the first plane back to his country,” said Prince Abdurrahman during the Saudi Sports channel special report on Al-Hilal celebration of the continental title. He added the technical decision belongs to the coach.
He promised that when Aziz finishes his special program, he will intervene to convince the coach to give the player a chance.
“I wonder how Al-Hilal has one of the best midfielders in Asia and that player isn’t playing. Anyway, I will sit with Aziz and see what problems he may have to end this issue that has really amazed the sports community,” the president added.
Aziz, whose contract with Al-Hilal ends in 2011, has been in a tense relation with his club over the last months. The administration of the club has taken several decisions against the player, the last of which was a salary deduction assigning him to a special four-week training program, after which the coach can decide his participation.
Some followers believe that the midfielder was trying to move to another club, but Prince Abdurrahman confirmed that if the player keeps skipping exercise session, he will find his place among fans.
“It is impossible that we treat a keen player equally with a careless one,” Al-Hilal President said.
