FRONT PAGE Speed kills, literally
A silver Nissan Maxima is seen split in two after hitting a palm tree on King Abdul Aziz Road, north of Buraidah, Thursday. The driver, whose body is wrapped in a blue plastic bag lying next to the further half of the car, was believed to have been going at a “crazy” speed when he veered off the road, police said. Last year, 6,458 people were killed and 36,846 injured in 485,931 road accidents across the Kingdom. The average cost of treatment in the intensive care unit at a government hospital of each person injured in a traffic accident is SR120,000 ($33,000), Muhammad Bakhas, director of the emergency room at King Fahd Hospital in Jeddah, was quoted as saying. An Aramco official said that the money spent on the treatment of the people injured every year in traffic accidents is enough to construct three oil refineries, Bakhas added. Assalam-o-Alikum,
I am really sad for what happens on roads everyday. I wish we educate our youngsters right from the start when they first sit in the driving seat. It's the duty of all of us...parents, teachers, elder brothers and more importantly the Traffic Police.
May Allah bless us all with the love of life that has been given to us for only once...we will have to answer for this great gift.
Regards
» Speeding only the manufacturers can cure | Noel Frank/Jeddah posted... Accidents due to Speeding is a world wide problem and should be dealt on a international level.
Why make vehicles with speeds above 200 Km/hr when the allowable speed limit is 120km/hr.? Unless pressure is exerted by governments world wide, on the manufacturers of vehicles to limit the speeds to 120kms/hr, the menace of accidents due to speeding can never be stopped
