‘Respect Christians in Iraq’

THE Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) has strongly condemned the unjust targeting of Christians in northern Iraq.
Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu vociferously lashed out against acts of violence and displacement suffered by Iraqi Christians, describing the acts as unprecedented crimes in the history of the country.
“As we have consistently demanded that the rights of Muslim minorities be respected all over the world, we do emphasize the need to respect the rights of all minorities across the Islamic world,” he said.
He urged the Iraqi authorities to make sure their perpetrators are duly brought to justice and that the dignity and honor of the minority Christians are protected.
While extending his condolences to the families of the victims, Isanoglu hoped that the displaced Christians would return rapidly to their homes in an atmosphere of security, tranquility and stability. – SG
