MAKKAH —
The Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques carries out washing and sterilizing the floors of the Grand Mosque four times daily as part of measures to ensure the safety of pilgrims and visitors.

There are 13,500 huge prayer rugs at the mosque and all these are being folded prior to the washing and sterilizing of the floor, according to Jaber Widaani, director of Cleansing and Carpets Department at the holy mosque.

Speaking to Saudi Press Agency, he said that the process of folding prayer rugs is carried out before washing and sterilizing the floor of the mosque and spreading them out again.

“Well trained workers are engaged in the cleaning and sterilizing process by using the highly advanced equipment and materials of cleaning and sterilization, in addition to spraying perfumes after it,” he said, adding that all these are being done in record time and in well-organized manner.

The department takes utmost keenness to keep the Grand Mosque clean and tidy at a time when the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs suspended entry of Umrah pilgrims and visitors to the Prophet’s Mosque to the Kingdom on a temporary basis.

The ministry also suspended entry of tourists from the countries affected by the new Coronavirus.
