Dialogue only way forward for Yemen peace, say Prince Khalid, Pompeo

WASHINGTON — Saudi Arabia's Deputy Defense Minister Prince Khalid Bin Salman and US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo agreed that dialogue represents the only way to achieve a stable, unified, and prosperous Yemen.

Prince Khalid met Pompeo on Wednesday in Washington, where US Secretary of State thanked the minister for Saudi Arabia's efforts to mediate the dispute in Yemen.

Pompeo reiterated US support for a negotiated resolution between the Yemeni government and the Southern Transitional Council, Morgan Ortagus, spokesperson of the US State Deportment, said.

Prince Khalid and Pompeo discussed a broad range of bilateral and regional issues, including the need for stronger maritime security in order to promote freedom of navigation, the Iranian regime's destabilizing activities in the region. — SG
