RIYADH – The activities of the Tuwaiq Symposium for Sculpture 2019, mainly direct sculpting on marble, concluded in Riyadh on Friday. This was the first event of its kind in the Kingdom, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Saturday.

The activities were held under the auspices of Prince Badr Bin Abdullah Bin Farhan, minister of culture and chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Commission for Diplomatic Quarter (DQ).

In his speech during the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Fahd Bin Mushait, CEO of the General Commission for Diplomatic Quarter (DQ), said: “The importance of this event lies in the number and diversity of nationalities of the participants in the event. A total of 23 artists specializing in this kind of art — 20 from various countries of the world and three Saudi artists — contributed in the event with distinctive works.”

The participant countries, among others, included Albania, Italy, Serbia, Germany, Belarus, Bulgaria, Georgia, Denmark, Spain, Slovenia, England, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Mexico, Cuba, Costa Rica, New Zealand, Iraq, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

Bin Mushait said 23 rock sculptures were produced. They will contribute to enriching the aesthetic taste of the public, on the one hand, and enhance the experience of fine arts students and fans, in general, and sculptors, in particular.

The sculpting activities began on March 1, and continued for 22 days. – SPA
