MILAN — Cristiano Ronaldo set up Paulo Dybala to score early and added one himself with defender Leonardo Bonucci also on target as Juventus surged 14 points clear in Serie A Friday with a 3-0 win over lowly Frosinone.

Coach Massimiliano Allegri was taking no chances, even against a side sitting second bottom of the table, ahead of next week’s Champions League last 16, first-leg tie at Atletico Madrid.

The seven-time reigning Serie A champion is also building toward a top-of-the table clash against Napoli in the San Paolo Stadium on March 3.

Allegri’s side continued its unbeaten run against its outclassed rivals from outside Rome to move 14 points clear of Napoli.

“A great series of matches commence, coming thick and fast,” warned Allegri as he included Ronaldo alongside Dybala and Mario Mandzukic on the front line.

Defender Bonucci returned from an ankle injury along with captain Giorgio Chiellini who had limped off during their shock Coppa Italia exit to Atalanta on Jan. 30.

Bayern cuts Dortmund’s lead

Champion Bayern Munich twice needed to come from a goal down to beat host Augsburg 3-2 Friday, courtesy of Kingsley Coman’s two goals, and cut the gap with leader Borussia Dortmund to two points.

The Frenchman, however, was injured in the final stages of the game, turning his left ankle on which he previously had surgery on.

Bayern, which take on Liverpool in the Champions League Round of 16 next week, was 1-0 down after only 13 seconds with a Leon Goretzka own goal, in what was the fastest Bundesliga goal for Augsburg.

Coman briefly restored order when he tapped in a Joshua Kimmich cross in the 17th minute. When Ji Dong-won netted in the 24th minute to give the hosts a 2-1 lead, it was the first time Augsburg had scored two goals against Bayern in a competitive game.

Again winger Coman came to the rescue on the stroke of halftime to level once more.

Bayern’s comeback was complete when David Alaba fired in from a tight angle in the 53rd before Coman almost got a hat trick, with his 73rd minute header tipped onto the bar by Augsburg keeper Gregor Kobel.

The Bavarians are in second place on 48 points with Dortmund, on 50.

Lyon downs Guingamp

Nabil Fekir earned Olympique Lyonnais a 2-1 home win against En Avant Guingamp Friday as they cemented third place in Ligue 1 ahead of its Champions League clash against Barcelona.

Fekir struck in the 35th minute after Felix Eboa Eboa had canceled out Martin Terrier’s opener to put Lyon on 46 points from 25 games.

Lyon, which hosts Barcelona in their Champions League last-16 first leg Tuesday, trail second-placed Lille by three points having played one more game.

Watford in quarters

Etienne Capoue’s goal in first-half stoppage time was enough to give Watford a 1-0 win away to Queens Park Rangers Friday that saw the Hornets into the quarterfinals of the FA Cup.

Both sides had chances in an even opening period that belied the fact that Watford are eighth in the Premier League and QPR 18th in the second-tier Championship following a run of five straight league defeats. — Agencies
