24 new MERS cases detected in a week

JEDDAH —
The control and command center of the Health Ministry announced the appearance of 24 new cases of the Middle East Deficiency Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) in the Kingdom within the last one week.

The center said 19 of these cases were in Wadi Al-Dawasir alone where a 32-year-old man has died following the coronavirus infection. He was believed to have contracted the virus by mixing with infected people at a hospital.

The center said two of the cases were in Riyadh and one each in Khamis Mushayat, Buraidah and Al-Qurayyat.

It said 17 of the cases have been admitted to hospitals while seven are receiving treatment at their homes.

The center said the new cases included a 55-year-old woman who got infected from a health facility and is now being secluded at her home.

It said all the new cases were registered between Feb. 3 and Feb. 9.
