Saudi Gazette report

TAIF —
The National Anti-Corruption Commission (Nazaha) has discovered serious violations in a number of government departments, including payment of regular salaries to employees who have been dismissed from service.

According to a report in the Arabic daily Al-Madina on Monday, Nazaha found out 163 employees in various government departments were still being paid their monthly salaries though they were no longer in the service.

Nazaha, which has been using electronic surveillance for many months to uncover corruption cases, said the violations were committed due to negligence, carelessness and disregard for regulations causing huge loss to the government through dissipation of funds.

According to Nazaha, as many as 931 government employees were still enjoying their official powers though they were sacked from their jobs a long time ago.

It said the violations also included appointing employees who were above 65 years of age, paying transport allowance to employees who have official cars and issuing business class tickets to undeserving employees.

Nazaha said a number of government employees who were sent abroad for higher studies under the Scholarship Program were still being paid their salaries from their departments while 115 who were on leave without pay were still on the payrolls of their departments.

Nazaha was established to combat corruption, investigate financial and administrative loopholes in public works and the operation and maintenance contracts, preparing the rules and regulations for relief of liability and providing direct channels of communications with the public to receive information about corruption.

It is also supposed to conduct and support studies aimed at fighting corruption and its negative impact on the social fabric and economic development.

Nazaha will collect and analyze data and statistics concerning corruption, will create databases and spread awareness against it among the public.

According to Nazaha, as many as 931 government employees were still enjoying their official powers though they were sacked from their jobs a long time ago.
