Japanese consulate marks National Day

JEDDAH — The Consulate General of Japan marked a National Day Reception to celebrate the 85th birthday of the Emperor at the residence of Consul General Masayuki Miyamoto here.

The reception was attended by Ambassador Sami Bin Jameel Abdullah, director of protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Makkah Region Branch, in the presence of princes, Consuls General accredited in Jeddah, Saudi businessmen and media figures in addition to Japanese community in the Western Region.

After the national anthems of the two countries, Miyamoto welcomed the guests and stressed on the excellent relations between Japan and the Kingdom and the deep friendship based on mutual respect and appreciation. He announced that this year would be the last year to mark the birthday of His Majesty as Emperor. He will abdicate next year. The crown prince will accede to the imperial throne.

He said that Osaka city would host next year the G20 Summit. Both Japan and Saudi Arabia are active members of this group.

Miyamoto explained that Saudi Arabia was among the 10 most important trading partners for Japan. Japan is the third top trading partner for the Kingdom and one of the largest investors with capital of about SR53 billion, including investments in Rabigh, Yanbu and Jeddah by which about 7,000 Saudi citizens were employed.

Annual trade between the two countries exceeds SR100 billion in Saudi surplus. He confirmed that Japan worked strongly for more presence in both public and private sector projects of the Kingdom such as water, renewable energy, infrastructure and other projects, and emphasized cooperation with the Kingdom so that the goals of “Saudi Vision 2030” would be achieved. He added that more than 10,000 Saudis were trained in Japan and the Kingdom and that Japan also had constructive cooperation programs with Saudi universities, including King Abdul Aziz University (KAU) and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST).

He concluded by expressing his hope that mutual relations would develop to meet the expectations of the leaders and people of both countries and that Saudi Arabia would enjoy progress, prosperity and growth under the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense.
