RIYADH — Saudi Arabia on Friday hailed the accord reached between the delegations of the legitimate government of Yemen and the Houthi militias at the UN-brokered peace talks in Sweden.
“The Kingdom, under the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense, is committed to reach a political solution in Yemen in a way ensuring its security, stability and territorial integrity,” a source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency.
The source said that the Kingdom appreciates the role of the legitimate government to reach this agreement and appreciates the government of Sweden for hosting the negotiations. According to the statement, the Yemeni people’s interest was triumphant over the Houthis, leading to a comprehensive political solution based on Security Council Resolution 2216, the Gulf Initiative and the outcome of the Yemeni national dialogue as sought by the Kingdom and the coalition countries, which still consider it the solution that will bring stability and development to Yemen.
“Handing over the port of Hodeidah is an important step to help alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Yemeni people and the delivery of aid to those who deserve it,” the source said while reaffirming that the Kingdom will stand by the Yemeni people.
