RIYADH —
The Council of Ministers on Tuesday decided to establish the National Nutrition Committee under the organizational structure of the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA).

Minister of Media Awwad Al-Awwad said that the Cabinet took the decision following the recommendation of the Council of Economic and Development Affairs on the basis of a report of the minister of health, who is also the chairman of the board of SFDA.

The National Nutrition Committee will act as a scientific advisory panel which will submit its recommendations and scientific opinions in the field of nutrition to the relevant authorities in order to improve the nutritional and health situation in the Kingdom.

The Cabinet authorized the minister of environment, water and agriculture to discuss and sign a draft agreement with the UN International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) to set up its GCC contact office, and present the agreement to the Cabinet for completing the legal procedures.
