AMUAA Riyadh marks Sir Syed Day celebrations with great zeal & fervor

RIYADH — A glowing tribute was paid to great visionary and reformer from the Indian subcontinent Sir Syed Ahmed Khan on his 201st-birth anniversary. Aligarh Muslim University Alumni Association (AMUAA) Riyadh Chapter organized a colorful celebration at the Marriott Hotel with a large number of AMU alumni and their families in attendance.

Coming from different walks of life, the event could be marked as one of the largest gatherings in the history of Sir Syed Day celebrations in the Kingdom, with a total of 700 Indian nationals attending the program. The program was solicited by the presence of Chief Guest and Guest of Honor from Saudi Arabia. Moreover, representatives of various Indian organizations and many prominent Aligs from all over KSA were present in the event.

The program was started by AMUAA General Secretary Dr. Mohammad Abul Farah by welcoming the guests on the dias which was followed by recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an. The program was conducted by Dr. Qaiser Saquib.

Young, vibrant and dynamic president of AMUAA Riyadh Engr. Syed Mohammad Mutayyab in his welcome address emphasized on the key contributions of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan which has enabled the Muslim community to make leaps in various fields. He further mentioned that the AMU graduates are serving in various capacities in Saudi Arabia as well namely in business sector, media organizations, universities, hospitals, engineering sectors and other fields and are keen to contribute to the best of their ability in Vision 2030 that aims to diversify the richness in different walks of life in Saudi Arabia.

The president also highlighted the accomplishments and achievements by the new team like the induction of female Cabinet in the association and formation of doctor’s cell, which could be accessed by any alumni at any point of time.

Professor Abdul Aziz Al Hammed was the chief guest of the event. Prof. Al Hammed is the rector/ vice chancellor of Prince Sattam Bin Abdul Aziz University, KSA. It is one of the pioneer and modern University of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia comprising 30,000 students in five different campuses.

Professor Al Hammed underscored, “I believe the Indian community is one of the finest communities we have had in the Kingdom.” He mentioned in his speech that the founder of great university Sir Syed Ahmed Khan realized the importance of education for Muslim community in India for their development.

Present at the venue were Vice Chairman of the Al Hokair Group Majid Bin Abdulmohsen Al Hokair as one of the Guest of Honor. Al Hokair Group is a leading and well-known name in entertainment and hospitality industry in Middle East region. Al Hokair said, “I am pleased to be among the AMU alumni and appreciate you all for holding this event every year.”

“Thank you for being a part of the Kingdom’s growth and development,” he said and expressed the desire to have AMU alumni in his team that will open doors for jobs for AMU alumni.

Joining them, Dr. Hifzur Rahman, first secretary, Embassy of India, said, “Sir Syed devoted his entire life for the emancipation of the Muslims of South Asia and Islamic renaissance. He was the most significant and inspiring person in our civilization that history can never ignore.”

The winners of Sir Syed Day essay writing competition were honored by the chief guest. This competition was participated by large number of students from various schools in Riyadh. The competition was coordinated by Dr. Afzal Hussain, under the umbrella of AMUAA Riyadh. The AMUAA team also released a directory-cum-souvenir on the occasion which was prepared by a hard working team comprising of Dr. Faisal Zaidi, Arch. Safeer Ahmed and Arch. Shafqat Imam.

The program concluded with the AMU Tarana, Indian National Anthem and Saudi National Anthem followed by vote of thanks by AMUAA Vice President Engr. Humanyun Hashmi, who appreciated the support of all for attending the function in such a large number. He also appreciated the support of Alig brothers and hard work of AMUAA team members (Shariq Jalil, Ashraf Masood, Saad Feroze, Abdul Khallaq, Malak Feroz and Dr. Anzarul Haque) for organizing this grand event. — SG
