Activating business incubators specialized in logistics proposed

ARTICIPANTS in the two-day Supply Chain and Logistics Conference organized by the Ministry of Transport in Riyadh, with the participation of more than 30 experts from eight countries, have reached sixteen recommendations. The most prominent of which were the adoption and activation of incubators specialized in logistics sciences and supply. Hence attracting gifted youth to research in this field and start the entrepreneurial work, and expand the adoption of the field academically, said General Overseer of the Conference, Turki bin Abdullah Al-Taaimi, and the Overseer of Marketing and Institutional Communication at the Ministry of Transport.

Al-Taaimi pointed out that the participants in the conference, which concluded its activities today, made important recommendations concerning the need to develop a clear strategy in cooperation with the relevant institutions to develop the appropriate mechanisms, through which selecting, training, qualifying and employing the national youth. This is due to the need of the market for these cadres serving the logistics sector, and also recommended to continue to support the applications and technical systems that had a positive impact on logistics operations.

Al-Taaimi said the recommendations included a request to study the costs of logistics services and find a way to place a price list for services related to transport by distance, load, storage space, and the transfer of parcels and

mail.

The General Overseer of the Conference stated that the recommendations of the conference should include the provision of training programs and academic curricula in this field through supporting specialized centers in universities and institutes, encouraging the private sector to invest in this field. These are aside with launching of a specialized recruitment platform in this area under the auspices of the competent authorities, as well as the reorganization of jobs, in addition to launching the initiative of the partnership between the private and public sectors and adopting them from the highest levels to be supportive to contribute to enrich initiatives before adopting them.

He pointed out that the conference addressed the encouragement of logistics companies to study the options of mergers and acquisitions in order to provide the market with giant corporations that are ready to meet the need and to face any challenges or changes expected in the market. These alliances will keep abreast of the global developments, especially in matters related to harnessing technologies. Among these recommendations were the adoption of job descriptions for the supply of state systems after their classification and development, the creation or linking of international women’s initiatives such as the Women’s Logistics Initiative to meet the needs of the local market, thereby encouraging them to engage in this area, find suitable jobs and focus on academic programs for the science of supply for females (Soft Supply Chain).
