RIYADH
— A recent report showed that the number of subscribers in the General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI) system, who were on the job at the end of 2017, has risen to 9,935,777.

The percentage of Saudis among these reached 19.9 percent, with an increase of 5.44 percent compared to last year.

On the other hand, the number of non-Saudi subscribers dropped by 6.6 percent, forming 80.1 percent, according to the annual statistical report for 2017 issued by the General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI) recently.

This comes amid a series of statistical reports GOSI issues every year to highlight its accomplishments during the whole year.

According to the report, the compensations in the Pensions Section registered an increase by the end of 2017. GOSI paid to the Pensions Section over SR20 billion in 2017.

The number of beneficiaries from monthly pensions reached 352,000. Retirement pensions form 83.1 percent of the total compensations paid. They include retirement pensions, early retirement, retiring women, and people working in difficult occupations.

The report showed that the number of companies, who were subscribing in the GOSI system until the end of 2017, totaled 453,567. The majority of these firms are in the private sector, comprising 99.7 percent. The individually owned firms comprise 90.4 percent of the total number of firms.

Some 45.7 percent of the firms are in the three main offices in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam while the remaining percentage is divided among the rest of the offices in the Kingdom.

Commerce, building, construction and manufacturing industries are at the top of economic activities, forming 76.9 percent of the total number of firms.

The report showed that the number of work injury cases by the end of 2017 totaled 42,361, of which 64 percent recovered without leaving any disability.

As to GOSI’s total spending on “occupational hazards” in 2017, the report showed that it exceeded SR995 million. Medical care provided by GOSI to subscribers who suffered work injuries formed 56.4 percent of the total spending.

As to GOSI investments, the report showed that the market value of GOSI investments in shares of local companies and banks exceeds SR102 million.

As to the real estate sector and keeping pace with urban and economic development the Kingdom is witnessing, GOSI has invested in several real estate projects fully owned by it. These projects totaled 17 by the end of 2017 with investments exceeding SR6 billion. They are scattered in the major regions of the Kingdom.

GOSI ranked third out of 157 government authorities in terms of maturity in providing electronic services, according to the Government Electronic Dealings Program.
