JEDDAH
— The Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany celebrated the German Unity Day, at Assila Hotel, here, recently. During the celebration the German Consul General Holger Ziegeler delivered a speech that addressed the strength of the Saudi-German bilateral relations

We should point out that the Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense, during a recent interview with Bloomberg stressed that Saudi Arabia will send an Ambassador back to Germany, emphasizing the improvement in the Saudi German ties.

Also, the Saudi Embassy in Berlin announced the return of the Saudi Ambassador Prince Khalid Bin Bandar Bin Sultan to the German Capital Berlin, on Tuesday Oct. 9.

After the Ambassador took up his post, he met the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs in Germany Heiko Maas, at the headquarters of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs where they discussed matters of mutual cooperation.

The German Unity Day celebration was attended by, Saudi Foreign Ministry officials, Consuls General, German community members, journalists, and businessmen.

It should be mentioned that the German Unity Day is the national day of Germany, celebrated on the Oct. 3 every year as a public holiday.

It is the memorial day commemorating the downfall of Berlin Wall and the unification of Germany in 1990 becoming the modern Federal Republic of Germany. This day is celebrated by the whole German nation every year.

German Consul General Ziegeler told Saudi Gazette: “Germany and Saudi Arabia have been cooperating closely on the highest level, as you see from the pictures of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s meeting with Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and the Crown Prince, during the chancellor’s visit to the Kingdom, or the recent meeting between Foreign Ministers Heiko Maas and Adel Al-Jubeir in New York.”

Ziegeler added: “Our economic cooperation is longstanding and intense. German companies employ over 40,000 people in Saudi Arabia. For its 40th anniversary, the German-Saudi Economic Liaison Office agreed with the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry to open a German commercial office here in Jeddah. Our bilateral trade surpassed €7bn last year. Let’s go for €8bn this year!”

Ziegeler said: “In the German unification 28 years ago, the German people peacefully overcame the acute political confrontation between East and West. We are today a dedicated member of the European Union and a strong supporter of the United Nations. It is with great pride and sense of responsibility that Germany assumes a seat in the UN Security Council for the next two years.”
