BERLIN — Borussia Dortmund's Christian Pulisic scored an 84th minute equalizer to rescue a 1-1 draw at Hoffenheim Saturday as Hertha Berlin provisionally climbed to top spot with a 4-2 demolition of Borussia Moenchengladbach.

The American, who got the winner at Club Brugge in a 1-0 Champions League group stage victory in midweek, tapped the ball home after good work from Marco Reus to earn his team a point.

Brazilian Joelinton put the hosts ahead on the stroke of halftime and Hoffenheim looked to be cruising after having two other efforts disallowed and also hitting the woodwork.

Things turned worse for the visitors when Abdou Diallo was sent off for a last-man foul on Andrej Kramaric but Pulisic timed his run to perfection to tap in Reus' cutback.

During the game Dortmund fans again unfurled banners against Hoffenheim's chief financial backer Dietmar Hopp after the billionaire decided to take legal action against more than 30 Dortmund fans over the chants and banners against him over the years.

One of the bigger banners showed his face in the crosshairs.

The result leaves Dortmund in third place on eight points, with champions Bayern Munich, second on nine, taking on out-of-form Schalke 04 later Saturday.

Striker Vedad Ibisevic scored twice as undefeated Hertha Berlin crushed Gladbach to go top of the table with their third win in four games.

Werder Bremen, with 39-year-old striker Claudio Pizarro making his first start of the season, squandered a two-goal lead but still managed to beat hosts Augsburg 3-2 thanks to Davy Klaasen's 75th minute winner courtesy of keeper Fabian Giefer's error, who let the ball slip through his legs.

Visitors Freiburg scored three times in 50 minutes to ease past VfL Wolfsburg 3-1 for their first win of the season.

Promoted Nuremberg also notched its first win of the campaign with a 1-0 victory over 10-man Hanover 96. — Reuters
