RIYADH — Takhassusi Street, one of the main arteries of the capital city of Riyadh, will be transformed into a model street for people with special needs.

The City Council of Riyadh, in coordination with the Riyadh Mayoralty, is making the necessary arrangements for implementing this directive, which was one of the major recommendations of a recently held workshop on “Pavements for people with special needs: the reality and solutions.”

The workshop was organized by the Council as part of the programs of its committee for people with special needs.

Several experts, especially those specialized in engineering consultancy, as well as members of the Council, specialists at the mayoralty, university professors and academics attended the workshop.

The workshop dealt at length with various topics on its agenda, including a visual report about the current status of pavements in the capital city, a working paper on the criteria of pavements in the Saudi Code Directory for the Disabled, improving the present condition of pavements and the specific criteria adopted by the mayoralty in this respect.

The workshop came out with a number of recommendations aimed at facilitating appropriate infrastructure for the people with special needs, compliance with application of the Saudi Code for the Disabled, and monitoring of institutions whether they are abide by the regulations pertaining to the people with special needs.
