Saudi Gazette report

RIYADH
— The Saudi Ministry of Justice has revealed that the legal training center, which was officially launched in August 2017, has already conducted over 70 training programs that were attended by 2,129 judges.

In addition, it held seven workshops and training sessions for the judicial staff. The sessions were attended by 134 notaries and 150 lawyers.

It has successfully launched a law diploma program with the enrollment of over 1,100 male and female lawyers.

The ministry has launched the training center as part of its ongoing plans to enhance the performance of the legal sector and everyone who works under its umbrella from judges to notaries, legal staff and lawyers.

“We believe there is great potential for this center as we have seen excellent results since its launch,” the ministry said in a statement.

The legal training center is functioning as a platform to exchange knowledge and experience in the legal sector. Judges are being trained on the best practices in different legal areas like handling cases related to commercial and business sector, labor law, criminal proceedings and other diverse cases, the statement added.

Similarly, the law diploma at the center provides practical training in legal practice in the final year of study, where students will join law firms and start handling real cases, attend court hearings and use their knowledge to present cases.

Successful completion of law diplomas will qualify law students to obtain licenses from the ministry to start legal practice.

Meanwhile, the ministry announced that it has published all rulings in commercial disputes issued in the past 12 months on its web portal: www.moj.gov.sa.

The move came as part of the ministry’s efforts to support its own research and development plans. It has made the rulings available online and will update them on a monthly basis.

According to the business intelligence platform, the number of rulings for commercial cases in the past year reached 16,102 rulings, of which 8,016 concerned sales and supply cases, 8,016 construction and commercial offices, 1,707 companies and other disputes.

Commercial courts were first launched in October 2017 in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam, in addition to a number of commercial departments across the Kingdom. All commercial cases were then transferred to those specialized courts and entities.

Commercial courts receive cases related to various commercial activities by companies and businesses.

Mobile notaries

Mobile notaries provided 15,321 notarial services since their launch in mid-2016.

The Ministry of Justice launched the mobile notary initiative free of charge to serve those who cannot visit notary offices in person.

The mobile notary service is easy to obtain; the service can be requested through a mobile app, email address or through a unified phone number. The person who requests the service will receive an appointment where the notary will visit him/her and provide the service on the spot.

The mobile notary services can be requested through the unified phone number: 920025888, or email: MNP@MOJ.GOV.SA or by using the mobile notary app on mobile devices.

Mobile notaries were first initiated in Riyadh, then expanded to eight other major cities including Makkah, Madinah, Jeddah, Dammam, Al-Khobar and others.
