Dubai — UAE President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Monday issued a federal decree to upgrade the country’s cybercrimes law.
According to a UAE press agency statement, the decree will be updated to include severe consequences.
The law will now involve imprisonment for 10 to 25 years and a fine ranging from AED2 million ($544,588) to AED4 million (more than $1 million) to any person who runs a group or page online with the aim of creating groups, associations or organizations that promote terrorism acts.
The updated rule will also include a fine of AED500,000 to AED1 million for anyone who initiates online websites with the aim of spreading hate. If someone is caught for the first time, the court will place them under electronic probation.
Temporary imprisonment and a fine of AED1 million will be issued to anyone who runs an online website or uses information and spreads it on the internet to affect a state’s public order or members of the judicial courts system.
The law states that the court is allowed to deport a foreigner who might be involved in these actions that are forbidden by the UAE Penal Code. — Agencies
