JEDAH —
The Bangladesh consulate here has purchased a prime property in the city for the relocation of its current premises.

The 10,300 sq. meter plot located at a main road in Baghdadiah district is not only easily accessible for the residents of Jeddah but is also easy to reach for out-station people as the new site is connected all major roads of the city and prime highways.

Speaking with Saudi Gazette after signing the purchase agreement, Golam Moshi, ambassador of Bangladesh, has said, “The government of Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Shaikh Hasina is determined to enhance the services to the Bangladeshi community in Saudi Arabia.”

The site acquisition symbolizes Bangladesh's commitment to enhancing the bilateral relations with the Kingdom, he added.

"The purchase of land to build a spacious multi-building campus will allow us to better achieve our foreign policy objectives as well as better serve both Bangladesh citizens and Saudi and other visitors to the country.”

The ambassador said the Bangladesh government would soon finalize the architectural design for the building. He added that new consulate would be constructed using the state-of-the-art technology.

Moshi expressed confidence that work would commence within a year.

F.M. Borhan Uddin, consul general of Bangladesh in Jeddah, signed the deal on behalf of the Bangladesh government in the presence of the ambassador; Shamsul Alam, joint secretary of the Finance Ministry of Bangladesh; Jahangir Alam, director general (legal) of the Foreign Ministry; and other officials at a local court, which is also the registration authority.

Currently, the Bangladesh consulate is operating from a rented building in a busy location at the Old Makkah Road in Al-Nuzlah district.

The Bangladesh government has almost completed renovation of its embassy building in the diplomatic quarter of Riyadh with some additional facilities.
