JEDDAH
— Several educational and entertaining events being held in the Kingdom’s major cities this summer has grabbed the attention of families.

"Nippon Con," or "The Japanese Village", is a festival that is taking place at Waad Academy in Jeddah for the first time and it succeeded in attracting a large number of youngsters.

Many visitors enjoyed the plays and the entertainment shows with some saying they learned more about the Japanese culture. The free-entry event is supported and sponsored by the General Entertainment Authority.

Visitors to the event, which kicked off on July 12, could watch different traditional Japanese shows and know about the country art since there are several art pieces that are showcased. They also enjoyed plenty of fun activities.

There are corners that teach the children about the Japanese culture and traditions.

Asmaa Khaled, a mother in her late 30s, said, “The event provided me with a lot of information about Japan. It is a wonderful event since it teaches you everything about this interesting country through live shows, arts and the shopping area that sells Japanese products. The timing of the festival is also suitable since children are into summer vacation, so families who did not travel abroad can visit the place and entertain themselves and their kids.”

Sara, another Saudi female visitor, explained that visiting the festival was the best thing that happened to her that day. She expressed her excitement by stating, “Nippon Con is a magnificent event. I am glad I had this experience and it is a free-entry event.”

A few visitors suggested having more activities and shows for this event if it comes to the Kingdom again.

One male visitor said on social media, “I went to the Japanese Village today and I saw few Japanese activities that showed the country’s culture.”

The festival concluded on Monday, July 16.
