64,000 appeals to recover SR14bn in a month

— Courts in the Kingdom issued 2,446 verdicts in commercial disputes in the month of Shaban, according to the Ministry of Justice. It is a 99 percent increase from the number of sentences issued in the same month last year.

Meanwhile the number of requests received for retrieval of money during the month was more than 64,000, which is an increase of 39 percent over last Shaban. The requests were to recover a total SR14 billion, which is a decrease of 7 percent compared to the same month last year.

The number of rulings handed down per day ranged from 45 to 199, with an average of 116 judgments daily during the month. The final verdicts constituted 96 percent of the judgments while the procedural rulings were only 4 percent.

According to the ministry's monthly report by, 78 percent of the verdicts were issued by the courts of three provinces, namely Riyadh, Makkah and the Eastern Province.

In all, more than 55,000 rulings were issued during Shaban, which is an increase of 10 percent over the same month last year. The number of verdicts issued on a daily basis was between 2277 and 3381 daily with an average of 2,643 sentences per day.

Personal status cases were on top with 42 percent of the verdicts followed by general cases (36 percent) and criminal cases (22 percent).

The report pointed out that the documentation operations during the month amounted to more than 236,000 requests, where authentication requests for agencies and declarations accounted for about 64 percent and for property documentation about 34 percent.
