JEDDAH —
Spareshots flirted with a perfect 40 score to grab Team of the Week honors in an early show of force during the second session of the OFBC (Overseas Filipino Bowlers Club) Friday Afternoon League Season 9 at the Iceland Bowling Center here.

Playing like a different team from the one that finished in fifth place in the recently concluded Season 8, Spareshots missed the first-place points of 10 only in the second game on the way to the top tally of 39 points.

And Spareshots made it a double celebration courtesy of Johara Palot who won the ladies’ Bowler of the Week award with her effort of 581 on scratch games of 164, 160 and 155 in the five-man team league event sponsored by Vertex Solutions headed by Mohammad Ibrahim Al-Harthi and Dia Jamal Eddin.

Defending champion Casadores II made its presence felt by notching the second-best score of 36 points on the day. Also, Casadores had its share of the individual honors after Jimmy Urbano emerged as the men’s Bowler of the Week on 588 (201, 214, 173).

Opening-week honoree Crime Busters enjoyed another solid performance, hitting the third-best score of 30 points ahead of NC Fantastic Bowlers 25, D’ Splinters 22 and RTJ Baguio Transient House 19.5. SGH Bowling Group tallied 15.5 points, with Forever Living Dynamics on 15 while Spare Busters made 14 and Forever Living 4 points.

Spareshots were denied a sweep of the points on offer and the enviable 40 by Casadores on the adjacent lane in the second game when the defending champions carded 907 for 10 points to Spareshots’ 884 for 9.

Still, it did not detract from Spareshots’ towering performance that gave them the lead after two weeks, with Palot shooting that 581 to back up Edwin Agustin’s top score of 586. Team captain Alex Duma added 577, his wife Carmen made 538 and Sergio Modar contributed 499.

Skipper Ehd Cordova tossed in 531 in support of Urbano at Casadores, with Rodel Tacson on 527, Farida De Guzman 516 and Tope Sayson 501.

Crime Busters drew the top score of 522 from Jhun Ejanda, 516 from Ryan Latigo, 511 and 504 from co-captains Vilma Miranda and Samuel Tesfai and 466 from Jayme Lugue.

Over at NC Fantastic Bowlers it was the duo of Imelda Sayago and Nap Patayan that carried the day on 566 and 518 that went with the 482 by Susan Patayan, 473 by Minda Guevarra and 413 by Nicolas Marshall.

For D’ Splinters the main man was Randy del Remedios on 535. He got help from Andrew Ociones 508, co-captain Imelda Flores 490, Vicky Juayno on 455 and Joseph Catulong on 393.

Season 8 title-holder Baguio Transient House had none reaching 500 with Cesar Pagtalunan three pins short of the mark on 497. The other scorers were Malou Nidoy 479, Rico Bulalayao 463 and Jack Jarin 443.

SGH had Shaid Salvador 456 and Joehel Del Rosario 408 at the helm. Forever Living-Dynamics were led by Sheila Monserate 501 and Leo Apacible 499.

Team standings (Week 2):

1. Spareshots 73 2. Crime Busters 67.0 3. Casadores II 65.0 4. NC Fantastic Bowlers 49.0 5. SGH Bowling Group 46.5 6. RTJ Baguio Transient House 42.5 7. D’ Splinters 36.0 8. Spare Busters 28.0 9. Forever Living Dynamics 19.0 10. Forever Living 14.0.
