Red Crescent, UNDP ink accord to boost services

JEDDAH
— The Saudi Red Crescent Authority has entered into a partnership agreement with United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to strengthen their cooperation and strategic partnership.

Dr. Mohammed Abdallah Al-Qasim, chairman of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority, and Firas Gharaibeh, deputy representative of UNDP in the Kingdom, on Tuesday signed the agreement on exchange of expertise between the two, said a statement issued by Saudi Red Crescent Authority's Shadi Al-Tabeti.

Al-Qassim said the agreement is part of continuation process within the ambit of national transformation plan that aims to strengthen organizational structure and services.

UNDP and Saudi Red Crescent Authority both share their expertise in field operations, logistical support and also in finance and administration sectors, he said.

Al-Qassim said the agreement would facilitate in achieve globally agreed development goals in emergency services.

As the lead UN development agency, UNDP is helping implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in various parts of the world.

UNDP's strategic plan focuses on key areas including disaster risk. UNDP provides support to governments to integrate the SDGs into their national development plans and policies. This work is already underway, as it supports many countries in accelerating the progress already achieved under the Millennium Development Goals.
