‘Mazban’ bags movie of the year award at Golden Falcon Film Festival

RIYADH – Saudi movie “Mazban” bagged the award for Golden Falcon Movie of the Year during the 1st Golden Falcon Film Festival in Riyadh. “Atoor” and “Departures” won for best director and best script respectively. The winners were also awarded with a trip to study movie technology in the Netherlands.

Organized and held on the premises of the Netherlands Embassy, a total of 32 Saudi movies where shown during the festival which was attended by film enthusiasts and Saudi film producers and actors.

Nine films were shortlisted for Best Film, Best Script and Best Director categories by the jury of the festival which was headed by Dutch filmmaker Hans Treffers.

“The festival brought an excellent startup for the young Saudi filmmakers to grow their talent with local and international experts. This initiative comes with a Dutch and will further help to promote filmmaking in Saudi Arabia as per Vision 2030,” he said.

Director of the Golden Falcon Film Festival and the Dutch Embassy First Secretary Jeroen Gankema said, “The Embassy highlighted the skills and abilities of young Saudis who are active in the film industry through this festival. We believe that Saudi Arabia and the Netherlands can capitalize on opportunities in the film and entertainment industry,” Gankema Said.
