Ford Tourneo Custom to make Middle East debut at ATM 2018

April 20, 2018

FORD on Thursday announced that the versatile new Tourneo Custom people mover, which delivers first class travel for up to nine occupants and the option of an all-new Premium model, will make its regional debut at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) at Dubai’s World Trade Centre on April 22-25.

Ford’s flagship SUV, the 2018 Ford Expedition Platinum will also be on the stand alongside the Tourneo people mover – offering VIP and executive transport operators the perfect choice of luxury vehicle for their needs.

Targeting hotel and airport shuttle services, tour operators, VIP and private hire firms, employee transport and taxi services, the new Tourneo Custom is available in a choice of three trim levels, two wheelbase options and two roof heights.

Distinguished by its bold new front-end design with five-bar trapezoidal grille with larger intake and stylish chrome bars, the new Tourneo Custom offers customers a spacious cabin with full-sized seats for every occupant and flexible seating configurations.

The introduction of the 2019 Tourneo Custom people mover brings with it the range topping Premium model, with superior levels of refinement and sophistication that includes high-quality trim materials, improved comfort and reduced noise levels, and segment leading Ford technologies.

“With the new Tourneo Custom, every passenger can enjoy the best seat in the house,” said Terry Rayner, Commercial Vehicle Director, Ford Middle East and Africa. “This versatile people mover has been transformed with a stylish interior that combines the comfort and quality of a luxury car with outstanding space, practicality and efficiency – precisely what this market demands.”

New Tourneo Custom has a bold new front-end appearance that shares its design DNA with Ford’s latest passenger cars. The high-mounted trapezoidal grille and dynamic, slim headlamps that flow neatly into the vehicle’s muscular shoulder line give it a more muscular appearance for 2019.

Dual side-opening doors provide best-in-class access to the rear seats; side-step running boards ease entry and exit from the vehicle, while the concealed sliding door rail helps provide a cleaner appearance and improved function. Side protection mouldings have also been integrated into the design of the front and sliding side doors.

The Tourneo Custom line-up continues offers both eight- or nine-seat configurations, with a choice of short wheelbase and long wheelbase versions. The longer model provides additional luggage space behind the third seat row.

With more than 30 seating configurations, the new Tourneo Custom allows the space to be maximized to enable equipment and passengers to be transported in comfort. Seats can be arranged in almost any order, or removed completely should the need arise.

Travelling comfort is further enhanced by new reclining seat designs featuring revised foam padding and geometry for optimized support, plus improved refinement resulting from a significantly upgraded sound reduction package in the rear cabin. Cabin passengers will also appreciate the separate and dedicated air conditioning and climate control system for the rear, while the 12-volt power supply and two USB chargers will keep phones and other devices topped up on the go. An optional 230-volt power point is also available.

Throughout the vehicle, the interior trim has been updated – from the headliner and seats to the side panels and carpets. The selection of more upscale materials reinforces the impression of quality and attention to detail within the cabin. — SG

The 2019 Tourneo gives operators a broad choice of trim and specification levels to suit their needs. The Tourneo Custom Kombi offers seating for nine and comes with a single side sliding door, black grille, black rear bumper and swing open rear cargo doors. It is available with a high-roof design that creates an additional 300mm of vertical space in the cabin, perfect for its intended role as both a passenger and cargo van.

The Base gets an additional sliding door, cruise control, a chrome and black grille, automatically folding door mirrors and a rear liftgate. The Base and Kombi are designed to appeal to customers who operate employee transport, taxi and hotel and airport shuttle services.

Tour operators, VIP and Private Hire firms will find the more luxurious interior and commanding road presence of the Premium more in fitting with their customer expectations. A black B-pillar provides a cohesive, visual appearance of a continuous side glass panel for Premium models, while 16-inch alloy wheels, front fog lamps and color coded wing mirrors also help boost the model’s exclusivity. The leather wrapped gear shifter and steering wheel, carpets throughout, premium seat material and rear seat USB charging ports are also exclusive to the Tourneo Custom Premium.

Advanced technology and driver assistance features

Powered by a choice of 100hp or 125hp 2.2-litre Duratorque TDCi turbo diesel engines, the Tourneo Custom delivers exceptional fuel efficiency. The long-range 80-litre fuel tank combined with the excellent fuel economy enables an industry leading 1200 kilometres between fuel stops. Individual seats all equipped with three-point seat belt, headrests and air conditioning (with 20 vents) enables customers to arrive safe and relaxed.

Every version comes equipped with Roll Over Mitigation, Anti Brake Locking System, Traction Control, Hill Hold Assist and a Tire Pressure Monitoring system. The Kombi comes fitted with driver and passenger airbags, while the Base and Premium have additional seat side and curtain airbags, plus front and rear parking sensors. — SG
