Traffic fines on the dead

THE main reason behind the establishment of e-systems is to reduce time, save efforts and to ensure that the best accurate service is provided in quick time. There are many e-systems in which people are dealing with directly without having to visit any government branch, such as paying off public utility bills and traffic violations.

Recently, Al-Madina daily published an interesting report that dealt with traffic violations and reviewed strange complaints against automatic violation system and violations issued by traffic officials. The report included some strange stories, some of which are shocking, and viewed some of the complaints filed against traffic violations issued to people with no cars, people who were sleeping at home and in some cases dead people. The report talked about other stories of people who received more than SR3,000 in traffic fines and the pain and suffering they had to go through to correct the situation.

There was a story of a violation of not wearing a seat belt issued to a man who died five months before he was issued a ticket. The owner’s car was parked ever since he died five months ago and yet a fine was imposed. There was a story of a sleeping man who woke up to a speeding fine. Others complained that they received wrong parking tickets when they were parked the right way. A Jeddawi received a traffic violation in a city in the Eastern Province that he never visited. And there are many examples like this.

Everybody has a right to complain against any traffic violation, according to the head of Traffic Department Gen. Muhammad Al-Bassami, who commented on the same story. He reassured that there was a special committee that looks into these violations and deals with them.

The report also talked about people who complained at the traffic department but traffic officials did not respond properly and were told to pay the fine first and then complain. Lawyers advised to file a lawsuit against the traffic department at the court of grievances against those who paid the wrong traffic fine.

No one is against adhering to the traffic laws and rules, that is natural. The too many wrong traffic violations and the difficulty some citizens and residents face to deal with is a serious problem and place a question mark on the accuracy of this system. There is a possibility that there is a fault somewhere or there are some traffic officials who are insisting on filing traffic violations on the dead.
