The biggest news in fashion is celebrating Virgil Abloh’s ascension to the throne.

The Off-White founder, Kanye West’s creative director and fashion liberator has landed the creative role at one of the most recognizable names in luxury fashion. Louis Vuitton confirmed that Virgil Abloh is the fashion house’s new artistic director of menswear, following Kim Jones’ departure earlier this year.

There has never been a better time than now to recognize and award the creative genius that has bridged the gap between all genres, including individuals, luxury and fashion. From the outcast, underground to a full mainstream crowd, Abloh has pushed the culture across all boards. His vision stirred ideas that resonated with the fashion elites and streetwear lovers. His appointment makes him the first black artistic director at Louis Vuitton.

“I think of it as kind of the ultimate collaboration,” Abloh told The New York Times.

Abloh’s appointment indicates the strengthening of further merging streetwear with luxury fashion which culminated with the Supreme collaboration last year.

“This opportunity to think through what the next chapter of design and luxury will mean at a brand that represents the pinnacle of luxury was always a goal in my wildest dreams,” he added. Abloh is compiling an eight-page “brand manual” to “define new codes” at LV. Abloh will present his first collection during Paris Men’s Fashion Week in June.
