Historic Saudi-US partnership celebrated in Washington

WASHINGTON — Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense, attended the Saudi US Partnership event at Andrew Mellon Auditorium in Washington DC on Thursday evening.

The city witnessed a grand function as speakers at the event, celebrating the historic Saudi US relations, spoke about the fast growth and development achieved in the bilateral ties and cooperation especially in the field of defense, combating terror, besides unveiling the remarkable features of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

The Saudi embassy in Washington organized this first annual dinner party to celebrate the Saudi American Partnership. The speakers at the event titled “Together we prevail” recollected remarkable events and shining examples of over 80 successful years of strong partnership between the two countries.

In his speech, Prince Bandar Bin Sultan, former Saudi ambassador to US, highlighted the strong bonds of partnership and friendship that were evident more explicitly in the war to liberate Kuwait and in the alliance between US and the Kingdom in the fight against terror.

He started his speech saying: “Today I am not addressing you as ladies and gentlemen; but as real friends,” he said. The hall was decorated with the Saudi and US national flags.

Prince Khalid Bin Salman, Saudi ambassador to US, also spoke. Those who attended the session included former US Secretary of State James Baker and several other distinguished American politicians and senior officials. The event saw honoring of American soldiers who took part in the ‘Desert Storm’ operation that resulted in the liberation of Kuwait from Iraq occupation.

Earlier, the Crown Prince met with US Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross; US Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan,; and CEO of the US Chamber of Commerce Tom Donohue. During the meetings, they discussed a number of issues such as the importance of growing the Saudi-American partnership, increasing of trade, and developing new partnerships that can help grow both countries’ economies. The meetings were attended by Prince Khalid Bin Salman, Saudi ambassador to the United States, and the accompanying delegation of the Crown Prince.
